Tables lined with pies and casseroles, steaming veggies, fruit plates and beverages galore. It was a bachelor’s dream come true--endless goodies to sample and slurp, a vast clutch of friendly neighbors I had never met, golden April weather, and a good reason to celebrate. This was Block Watch 2013 on a recent Saturday at the Farnsworth Apartments, corner of Higley Road and University Drive. What better way to launch a successful program of community security than by staging an ol’ fashioned potluck to bring out the best in unacquainted “pre-friends.” So, we accomplished the first goal of our Block Watch program, getting to know the guy/gal next door for added safety and security.
