Desert Nature Walk

Do you enjoy walking, but get tired of the sidewalks? How about a more natural environment for your walk. The nature walk is one of the common areas right here in Dreamland Villa. It is located under the high voltage power line towers between Decatur and Colby streets and extends from Higley to about 61st Street. The yellow line on the map below locates the Nature Walk. Some stretches have a defined trail, but there is never a concern about getting disoriented. Enjoy the native vegetation and wildlife.

DVRC maintains most of this one mile strip with native, drought resistant vegetation that encourages wildlife. Velda Rose Estates maintains the south portion between 56th Street and Recker Road.

The Nature Walk is intended for walkers/hikers and is open for everyone to enjoy. All motorized vehicles are prohibited, with the exception of electric carts. Wheel chairs, bicycles, walkers, etc. are welcome, as long as they are used in a prudent manner. (Velda Rose has their portion posted no bicycles.)

Pets must be leashed and bring bags to clean up any deposits. A complete list of Rules and Regulations can be found here.

The Nature Walk committee sponsors clean-up of debris along the trail from time to time. If you would like to help, watch the calendars in the right column of the home page for specific dates or contact the committee chairman listed here.

Looking for a longer hike?
It is suitable for hiking under the power line to 64th Street to the East. To the West, across Higley, there is a grass area with a sidewalk on the North side that will take you to the excess water run off canal. There are hiking opportunities on both sides of the canal, going both North or South. Click here to see a larger map with these extended hiking options.

Please be cautious when crossing Recker or Higley. Traffic travels at 45+ MPH!
