Kellerman, Jonathan: Victims
Alex Delaware, psychologist, once again aids Milo Sturgis, Detective Lieutenant of Homicide Division, LAPD in finding his man.
Left with no clues but a piece of white paper with a question mark in the center, and grisly murder following grisly murder, Alex and Milo slowly begin building a case of circumstantial evidence. When two of the victims finally have a common link to Ventura State Hospital, things begin to fall into place. Alex at one time trained at this, the state's largest mental hospital. He had questions about the “special placement” ward, but they were never answered. His supervisor said she liked him too much. Later he helped evaluate and suggest placement and further treatment for patients as the hospital was shutting down.
Still, however, there are no solid clues but the question mark. Alex's familiarity with Ventura State, and his experience there gradually leads him to uncover the existence of a very disturbed young man and a hospital guard who had befriended him for his own warped reasons.
Finding this young man with only vague descriptions, no physical evidence but the question mark left behind at each crime scene, and people beginning to panic make for a very intense time in the lives of the people of LA, and Milo, Alex and their team.
This is one of Kellerman's best mysteries in a long series of best sellers.
