Farewell to Charles Dubbs

The following article was written for the Citizen when Charles retired. Since then Charles has continued to stay active in Dreamland Villa, including holding a position on the Board of Directors.

January, 2013 by Patty Thorpe
Charles Dubbs, DVCC Administrative Office Manager, is retiring his position with Dreamland Villa effective January 2, 2013 to spend time traveling with wife.

Charles and his wife Hazel moved to Dreamland Villa in January of 2000 from Las Palmas. When the management of Dreamland Villa considered a change in the direction to move the club forward in the future, Charles was asked to interview for the position as bookkeeper to assist management in reaching their goals. Charles was certainly qualified as he has a BA in Christian Education and Business, an MA in Theology and a Doctorate in Humanities. Charles also had previous experience in accounting management for small churches and in other communities similar to Dreamland Villa. Charles was hired in August of 2006 with the agreement he would stay until 2012 when the club’s goals had been reached. Many of those goals have been met. Of course, the Board of Directors is constantly working on new goals which will continue to make Dreamland Villa a great place to reside.

Gene Espy, former treasurer of the DVCC Board, set up a bookkeeping system which tracked and audited all expenses and income with Charles learning the system as well. Charles completed an office procedural manual, assisted with the implantation of an office computer system, and recommended many other office and employee improvements.

Charles has been a dedicated employee who as worked endlessly to improve the Dreamland Villa Office. Charles has always been willing to assist newcomers to Dreamland Villa by giving hundreds of tours around Read Hall Campus along with assisting Dreamland residents with issues that required assistance of a trained knowledgeable Office Manager.

Charles has a command of the By-Laws of Dreamland Villa, the Policy and Procedures, and the Rules and Regulations. Perhaps there were times when he had to say “I’ll look that up for you and get back to you.”

Charles’s promise has now come to an end. 2012 is over. With his resignation, Charles can now travel as he promised Hazel they would do after his commitment to Dreamland Villa. Charles can now choose anything else his heart desires to do. I think probably Hazel has a “Honey Do” list for Charles to complete.

“I have enjoyed working closely with Charles Dubbs for three years. I fi nd Charles to be a very hard working man who is ethical and an honest human being. Charles loves Dreamland Villa and has contributed to the success of the goals established by the management team many years ago. There were times Charles and I have disagreed on various issues, but with communication and respect for each other we have always compromised due to our consideration and love of the residents of Dreamland Villa,” stated Patty Thorpe, the present DVCC treasurer.

Charles last day is planned for January 2, 2013. Patty also added, “Charles you will be sincerely missed by many but mostly by me. Good Luck and God Bless. I’m so happy you will still be around Dreamland Villa.”
