Board Study Session Minutes - March 5, 2013

The Study Session was called to order by President Red Westall at 9:00 AM. He reported the passing of Ross Farnsworth. It was suggested a floral bouquet or plant be sent to Mrs. Farnsworth and the flag be flown at half-mast. Photocopies of an article in the newspaper were passed around giving information about septic systems in Mesa being replaced by city sewer in the future.

Andrea Hill is still the temporary secretary. She called the roll. Present were Wendall Black, Agnes Forsyth, Doris Gruner, Steve Holleque, John Mathews, Frances Skaggs, Patricia Thorpe, Jerald Westall, Larry Wilkens, and Lyle Wood.

Old Business:
Discussion about adding the words “55+ Senior Community” to the Dreamland sign was tabled for a future meeting since no action was taken on research.

A line item was added to the budget to reflect monies earned for the shuffleboard courts. Red said he would research the cost of 2 or 3 more courts being resurfaced, if the budget will allow it.

There is a five-foot trophy in the office won by Dreamland’s Shuffleboard Club. This traveling trophy had not been won by DVCC since 1968.

Dennis Zurbay reported on the completion of the audit. Dennis said a better term would be “financial review.” He thanked Lane Allen, Steve Dinsmore and Charles Dubbs for their help and expertise. John Mathews moved to accept the report. Motion was seconded. It carried. The findings will be made available for the board and discussion at the next meeting.

Larry Wilkens said the next Nature Trail clean-up will be Wednesday, March 13. Persons interesting in helping should meet at the trail next to 54th Street.

John Mathews reported sixteen persons are signed up for the CPR class so far.

New Business:
Aggie Forsyth led a discussion on changes to wording in the rules and regulations on page 12, item 6 dealing with penalties to homeowners who don’t comply. It is no longer valid since the lawsuit judgment. She said she would rewrite the wording and present it to the Board for discussion and voting. It was suggested a committee should be formed to thoroughly examine all the bylaws, rules and regulations to bring them up to date and in compliance.

Larry Wilkens handed out a spreadsheet that showed his research for one year on energy usage for Dreamland, both gas and electric. His goal is to find areas where waste can be discovered and eliminated. It was suggested SRP be asked to come and make an energy evaluation.

Patty Thorpe led a discussion on DVCC individual clubs that earn money and/or request funds from the board. There will be guidelines discussed and drawn up to make it more equitable for all the clubs, not just a few. IRS-1099 forms will be sent to all the entertainers and clubs who earn money in the amount of $600 or more.

Lyle Wood moved to adjourn the meeting. John Mathews seconded. Motion carried.
