Originating in 1964, The Softones credit their initial musical training to their parents and other family members. The group claims joy for growing up in households where music was an integral part of the family culture. The musicians hale from Alberta and they spend their winters in Mesa, AZ. The talent varies with each musician, Ed Breitkreutz, leader of the group, plays the accordion as well as being a gifted composer. The saxophone training for Kay Ferrin began when he was eight years old. He led a dance band at the young age of 16 and went on to four years in the U.S. Air Force Band. Following graduation from college he spent twenty five years teaching band. After retirement he met The Softones and has been playing with them since 1992. Roy Warnke, who started playing guitar at the age of 12, played in numerous bands over the years from Rock and Roll to many Western Bands. After ten years in the military and twenty years as an Electrician he was led to play at Senior Homes as well as at dances. Meeting The Softones changed his lifestyle to a very busy schedule as the guitarist and vocalist with the band.
