About UsThe Dreamland Villa Community Club was chartered as a non-profit organization by the State of Arizona on June 1, 1961, and was initially operated by the Farnsworth Construction Co. William Read became the first president of Dreamland Villa when the first board of directors was elected and the assets of the facilities known as Read Hall were transferred to the Club in 1972. The Board of Directors currently consists of seven members elected by members. The Board, through its committees and staff, conducts the day-to-day business of the Club. The newspaper, the Citizen, was first published in the early 1960's. An annual directory of Dreamland residents is distributed to all residents the first part of each year. The library was initially housed where the business office is now located. Later, as the Villa grew, the library moved to its present location on Butte Street. Help Services, an independent non-profit corporation, was started in June 1973, by Fred Larsen, a Villa resident. Help Services began collecting and loaning sick room equipment in September of that year to the residents of Dreamland Villa and Velda Rose Estates. The facilities of the Club consist of two separate complexes and a nature trail walk. The Read Hall complex houses most of the Club's indoor activities, the business office, the shuffleboard and croquet courts, the exercise room, two pools and a spa, card rooms, the computer club, a meeting room that will accommodate up to 150 persons, and John's Villa Restaurant. Read Hall is the scene of the coffee socials held on the second and fourth Saturday mornings. The Farnsworth Hall complex includes a large auditorium with a full stage and is used for larger events such as the Arts and Craft Shows, the Art Show, Pot Luck Dinners, and is home to the Farnsworth Hall Community Theater which promotes dances and various types of entertainment programs including musical groups, concerts, and plays. Farnsworth Hall also has available County certified kitchen facilities. This complex also has the bocci ball and horseshoe courts and the band shell used to present outdoor entertainment programs. Both complexes offer swimming and hot tub facilities. The nature walk is located along the power line easement between Colby and Decatur Streets and Higley and Recker Roads. The use of motorized vehicles on the nature trail is prohibited. Planned activities range from art and ceramic classes to lapidary, woodworking, quilting, computers, and cards including pinochle, cribbage, "500", canasta, poker, euchre, whist and duplicate and party bridge. For those looking for exercise, there are two sessions per week of "Slim and Trim" exercise to music for the ladies, co-ed "Silver Sweaters" exercise every weekday morning, swimming and "Aqua-cize" therapeutic water exercise groups, a hiking club and our own mile long nature trail. Shuffleboard and bocci ball playing occurs everyday during the cooler months and contests are held often, both within our Club and with other clubs in the vicinity. Bingo is held every Monday evening during the winter months. Sports activities like bowling and golf are regularly scheduled with leagues and planned competition for participants. The Sing-A-Ling Chorus not only enjoys many practice hours, but present programs and concerts. There also exists a passport club, a garden club and two different singles' clubs. When Dreamland Villa was initially conceived, the concept of planned communities was yet to be developed. In fact, Dreamland Villa was one of the forerunners in the development of such communities. The community flourishes because of the free giving of time and effort by the many volunteers including those who serve on the Board of Directors. It is hoped that you will feel free to join these volunteers and to promote the Club and community in the future for the benefit of all. |
